The Marley LW Fluid Cooler is an induced-draft counterflow closed-circuit fluid cooler utilizing patented heat transfer technology. The LW’s lower height and compact build with factory-installed controls address many municipal code height restrictions.

By moving key assembly steps typically performed onsite to the manufacturing floor, the LW also offers significant installation and maintenance advantages that effectively address shrinking skilled labor pools and limited budgets.

Applications
The Marley LW is well-suited for HVAC applications, including water-source heat pumps for commercial buildings and multi-unit residential high-rises, water-cooled variable refrigerant flow (VRF) and skid-mounted systems. It is also an excellent fit for industrial applications such as compressor, machine jacket and process fluid cooling. The Marley LW Fluid Cooler is a viable option for specifications calling out heat rejection duties less than 200 tons, counterflow closed-circuit cooling towers, outdoor forced-draft fluid cooler replacement, lower height or weight requirements or redundancy restrictions.

Installation Advantages
With standard unit heights less than 10.5 feet, the Marley LW Fluid Cooler meets many municipal code height limitations and offers advantages for rooftop installations where low visibility is important. Other benefits include single-piece installation, single-point power connection, factory-installed controls, and factory wiring and testing.

Maintenance Advantages
With 6-10 large rectangular access doors per cell strategically located to allow easy inspection and maintenance of interior components including spray, coil and fill compartments, the LW takes ease of access to another level. The access doors provide air tight and watertight seals without the use of gaskets or fasteners.

Patented Heat Transfer Technology
The Marley LW uses specially designed heat transfer coils in conjunction with PVC film fill media to significantly enhance evaporative heat transfer. The unique design of the coil drastically reduces its resistance to airflow, lowering fan power requirements and increasing the capacity for heat rejection in a given unit size by allowing more air to move through the high-efficiency fill media.

Direct Drive Fans
Direct drive fans eliminate the routine maintenance typically required for belt driven equipment, including periodic belt tensioning and bearing re-greasing. Fans are factory-wired to the unit control panel, which is factory-tested and shipped mounted on the unit for easy commissioning on site.

  • ECM Direct Drive Fans
Standard fan drives incorporate high-efficiency electronically commutated motors (ECM) with integral speed
control. ECM fan drives provide efficient operation at exceptionally low sound levels.
  • AC Motor Direct Drive Fans (LWA Models)
An optional drive system using NEMA premium efficiency fan motors is available, designed for use with external variable speed drives (VFDs). Models with AC motors (LWA models) deliver the same unit performance as models with ECM drives, with slightly higher sound levels as a tradeoff for improved availability in a world of electronics supply vulnerabilities.

Copper Heat Exchange Coil
Copper heat transfer coils offer corrosion resistance and greater thermal efficiency, which contribute to the LW Fluid Cooler’s compact equipment size, lower weight and long service life. Copper coils are 30-40 percent lighter than comparable galvanized steel coils. The copper coils require less process fluid volume and are bacteriostatic and recyclable. Multiple coil configurations are available to balance heat transfer capability, fluid pressure drop and equipment.

Clog-Resistant Water Distribution System
Large 1-7/8” orifice spray nozzles help prevent debris build-up and clogging.

Multiple Access Doors
6-10 gasketless doors per cell are removable without tools and allow easy access to interior components including spray, coil and fill compartments.

Robust Construction
The LW Fluid Cooler includes a bolted stainless steel collection basin as standard. All collection basin and air inlet parts exposed to circulating water, including coil supports, attaching hardware and optional basin components, are heavy-gauge series 300 stainless steel. The balance of the tower structure and mechanical supports are fabricated from heavy-mill galvanized steel.

PVC Air Inlet Louvers
PVC air inlet louvers limit splash out and also offer easy access to the collection basin from all sides.

PVC Drift Eliminators
High-efficiency, triple-pass PVC eliminators limit drift losses and are easily removed for inspection.

1. Process fluid is pumped internally through the copper coils.

2. Recirculating water is pumped from the collection basin to the pressurized distribution system and is distributed over the coils.

3. Recirculating water flows over the outside of the coil tubes, removes heat from the process fluid and flows onto the fill media below the coils.

4. Air induced through the fluid cooler evaporates a small portion of the recirculating water, rejecting heat to the atmosphere.
