Cooling tower duty motors in Marley products are built according to NEMA standards and designed to withstand exposure to hot, moist cooling tower conditions. The TEFC (totally-enclosed, fan-cooled) motor is protected from water and debris, reducing maintenance requirements.
Additionally, to support long service life, the motor’s interior is fan-cooled and coated with epoxy for maximum protection from heat, moisture and corrosion. The exterior housing is high-grade cast iron.
Drain plugs are located on every 90-degree angle of the motor and on the face of each end shield to accommodate any mounting configuration.
For cooling tower applications up to 100-horsepower, motors include sealed bearings that require no greasing.
When combined with the VFD in a single-solution package, customers can realize up to 30 percent energy savings compared to a two-speed starter, and up to 70 percent compared to a single-speed starter.*
*Based on CoolSpec™ selection for a three-cell NC8405TAN with 40hp motor per cell running 24/7 for 5 years. Total water flow over the tower is 4500 GPM. Cost is $0.10 per kWh with an assumed annual interest rate of 3%. Cold water set point is 75°F, with an average wet-bulb temperature of 50.7°F, (average seasonal value for Cincinnati, OH).
