The TEFC motor, with its internal fan, does not rely on cooling tower airflow for cooling. Even at slow fan speeds, the motor can continue to cool itself, which helps to extend its service life and increase its reliability. TEFC-type motors provide effective ventilation at all speeds.
Drain plugs are located on every 90-degree angle of the motor and on the face of each end shield to accommodate any mounting configuration.
For cooling tower applications up to 100-horsepower, motors include sealed bearings that require no greasing.
When combined with the VFD in a single-solution package, customers can realize up to 30 percent energy savings compared to a two-speed starter, and up to 70 percent compared to a single-speed starter.*
*Based on CoolSpec™ selection for a three-cell NC8405TAN with 40hp motor per cell running 24/7 for 5 years. Total water flow over the tower is 4500 GPM. Cost is $0.10 per kWh with an assumed annual interest rate of 3%. Cold water set point is 75°F, with an average wet-bulb temperature of 50.7°F, (average seasonal value for Cincinnati, OH).
